Press Release - New Product Opens Doors for Apollo

Date: 15 January 2004

Market leader Apollo Adhesives has unveiled a unique adhesive for plastic door panels as part of a pioneering partnership with several panel manufacturers.

Independently-owned Apollo Adhesives, based in Tamworth, Staffs, specialises in the development and manufacture of industrial adhesives, sealants, coatings and bonding systems for advanced technology and traditional applications.

The company, in partnership with leading UK door manufacturers including Door Panels plc, wanted to further increase the long term durability and quality of plastic door panels by using new state-of-the-art adhesives.

An in-depth research and development project was launched two years ago - resulting in the launch of Apollo's new 'StressFree' range of solvent-free adhesives.

The new range of moisture curing Polyurethane adhesives, which is used to 'stick' the components which form the door panel together, has been specially formulated to increase the flexibility of the panels - thereby increasing the lifespan of the product.  The target was to produce the best product on the market -which has undoubtedly been met.

Sticking Together

Richard Jagger, Research and Development Manager of Door Panels plc in Worcestershire explained further: "There is a massive market for plastic doors and panels and demand looks set to grow.

We exclusively produce weatherable infill panels for plastic doors and our products are acknowledged as top quality.  As our panels have a ten year guarantee they are designed to be robust and durable.  This new adhesive will help make an excellent product unbeatable!  It increases the flexibility of the plastic, thereby helping to reduce rejects in the manufacturing process.

Our products, which are guaranteed for ten years, are designed to be robust and durable.  We were keen to work with Apollo to develop a new product that would improve quality without adding costs for our customers.

A major benefit of StressFree is that its application is identical to previous adhesives, which has meant that we can continue to use existing machinery and production methods.

The initial success of the product has prompted us to look at different ways of application so that we can continue our commitment to development.

Door Panels has a stringent policy for only working with the best suppliers who deliver quality innovative products.  Apollo was our first choice because it has an extensive technical expertise and it has an outstanding approach to customer service and assistance."

Getting Stuck In

Before the product was launched technical teams carried out exhaustive tests on the new adhesives range.  These included elongation tests - pulling the plastics from all angles to ensure the strength of the bond during everyday use - and heat tests to assess the product under changes in temperature.

Apollo, with 30 years' experience is renowned for innovation, technical expertise, quality and service and are delighted with the response from this industrial sector.

Ian Cornelius, Sales Manager said: "We aim to nurture close working relationships with customers and this is a perfect example of how the development of new products can directly solve customers' problems and issues through innovation, production and efficiency savings. StressFree is unique.  It is kind to plastics, improving their performance and making them last longer.

The development of StressFree proves that the way forward for the adhesives industry is not simply cutting the cost of products but working with customers to provide them with leading edge technologies that solve production problems to help them maximise turnover.
